Windows 10

Windows 10 was introduced in July 2015; this set the end-of-support date for Windows 7 at January 2020. Over the past few years, users have been switching to Windows 10 machines as their computer reached replacement age. However, there are still several Windows 7 machines in use, quickly approaching their expiration date.

What Does End-Of-Support Mean?

Windows currently releases patches and security updates to keep Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10 running with maximum safety and productivity. After end-of-support, there will be no more patches and security updates released for Windows 7. Any computers running Windows 7 after January 2020 will be increasingly prone to viruses, ransomware and more. These Windows 7 machines can compromise your data, your machines, and your clients. It is strongly recommended that users update to Windows 10 before the January 2020 date.

What’s New With Windows 10?

Windows 8 was not well-received among many users; Windows 10 is a good blend of features between the two operating systems. Windows 10 retains the Start menu in the lower left corner but keeps many of the touch-friendly designs of Windows 8. Learn more about new Windows 10 features below:

Cortana is a virtual assistant that runs on your Windows 10 computer. She reacts to your voice and also receives typed commands. Depending on your settings, Cortana can perform web and computer searches, set a timer, take notes, and add items to your calendar.

If you sync Cortana across your mobile devices as well, she can remind you to grab milk when you are near the grocery store, track your health and sleep data, and hail you an Uber.

Cortana is disabled in Windows 10 Education and Education Pro, and can be disabled by your domain administrator when running Windows 10 with group policy.

Popular web services like Netflix, Hulu and Pandora are also packaged as apps in the Windows Store, providing a fully-featured version of the streaming service.

Users can search by categories to quickly find apps, and read reviews and check intended audience levels to make sure the app is a good fit. The Windows store will also show which devices can use the app.
